Kyle WashingtonExecutive Chairman, CopperLion Capital
Based in Vancouver, Kyle is the Co-Chairman of Seaspan Corporation (NYSE: SSW), an international containership company and the Executive Chairman of the Seaspan Marine Corporation. Between 1994 and 2007 Kyle became a member of the management team, and subsequently Executive Chairman of Washington Marine Group, where he was responsible for overall corporate strategy and was active in developing senior level customer, supplier and government relationships. In 2009, Kyle returned as a Director and Executive Chairman of Seaspan Marine Corporation (formerly Washington Marine Group) and was appointed as a Director of Envirocon, Inc., Modern Machinery Co., Inc., Montana Rail Link, Inc., Montana Resources, Inc. and Southern Railway of British Columbia, Ltd., all of which are within the Washington Companies.
Kyle was an ambassador to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and is an active supporter of the Young Life Organization and other charities. He is a graduate of the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration.
Byron HornerPresident, CopperLion Capital
Based in Vancouver and Parksville BC, Byron has broad experience in private equity and real estate investing, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions and property management. Previously, Byron worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch & Co. (Global Industries Group) and CIBC World Markets in New York and Vancouver. Prior to working in New York, Byron worked at Lawson Lundell LLP in Vancouver and was called to the Bar of British Columbia.
Byron's Private Equity experience includes investing over $80 million of equity or mezzanine debt in the transportation, logistics and real estate sectors. Byron's M&A experience includes advising clients on takeover bids, share and asset sales transactions with aggregate values of over $25 billion. Byron's financing experience includes advising on equity and debt financings with aggregate proceeds of over $10 billion.
As part of his duties at CopperLion, Byron is President of Spirit Bear Entertainment Inc., Executive Producer of the IMAX film "Great Bear Rainforest” and Executive Director of the Washington Kids Foundation a registered charity serving youth in the Lower Mainland. The Great Bear Rainforest IMAX film is currently in post-production and scheduled for worldwide release in the Spring of 2019.
Byron currently serves as a Director on the Board of Directors of the Washington Kids Foundation and of Vancouver College. Byron previously served as an Observer on the Board of Directors of Seaspan Corporation (NYSE: SSW) (2010-2016) and Aviation Partners Boeing (2012-2016). Byron previously served as a Director on the Board of Directors of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (Chair Human Resources and Compensation Committee and member of the Audit and Corporate Governance Committees) (2012-2014), Aviation Partners, Inc. (2012-2014) and the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation (2006-2014).
Byron is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), holds the ICD.D. designation from the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors, an MBA (Finance) from UBC, an LL.B from the University of Toronto Law School, an MA in Political Science from UBC, a C.E.P. from L'Institut D'Etudes Politiques de Paris, and a BA in Political Science from Carleton University.
